Douglas Wayne (Chip) Spurrier, II, 34, of Clyde, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Baird. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Clyde with Rev. Larry Hooper officiating. Military graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas Veteran’s Cemetery in Abilene, Texas, under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the funeral home.

Chip was born May 27, 1978, in Odessa, Texas, to Douglas Wayne Spurrier, I and Deborah Ruth Roland Spurrier. He was a graduate of Crane High School. Chip was a highly decorated Marine serving in the U.S. Marine Corp from 2000 to 2005 as a rifleman. He served two tours in Iraq and was a leader in infantry. Since his honorable discharge from the Marines, Chip has been co-owner of Bulldog Equipment Services in Clyde. He was a member of the American Legion in Baird.

Chip is survived by his father Douglas Wayne Spurrier, I and his step-mother Sally of Camp Wood, Texas; his sisters Amber Spurrier Mayhugh (and Gary Underwood) of Clyde, Candy Barrett of Arlington, Lu Fayne Helmers of Monahans, Cheryl Spurrier Morriss of Monahans, and Kasi Hagen of Clyde; his brother Scott Smith of Abilene; his step-dad Ronnie Smith of Clyde; his grandpa, Angelo McAnally of Monahans; Kylar and Colt Mayhugh and several other nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles, cousins; his girlfriend Laura L. Robertson of Abilene; and many Marine brothers.

He was preceded in death by his mother Debbie Ruth Smith; his paternal grandparents W.G. Spurrier and Wilma Jo Spurrier; and his maternal grandmother Patsy Smith.
