Andrew (Andy) Bustamante Mendez, Jr., 78, of Baird died peacefully Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at his home. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the St. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in Clyde with Father Robert Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Cemetery in Baird. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde with visitation starting at 5:00 p.m.

Andy was born March 1, 1939 in New Gulf, Texas to Andrew O. Sr. and Dominga (Bustamante) Mendez. He married Alejandra Silba in Abilene on May 17, 1962 and they were life-long residents of Baird. Andy was a self-employed concrete contractor for most of his life and he also worked for TXDOT of Abilene for several years and later for the Abilene State School and retired in 2001.

Andy loved his family and they meant the world to him. He was a hardworking man and a friend to everyone. He loved joking around and could make anyone laugh with one of his funny stories. He will be dearly missed by everyone.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Alejandra Mendez of Baird; son Andrew J. Mendez of Abilene; daughter Lupe Aguirre and husband Hector of Baird; four brothers, Fred Mendez, Sepy Mendez and John Mendez, all of Baird and Antonio Rios of San Antonio; sister Delores Keith of Baird; two granddaughters, Erica Ray and Amanda Reynolds and husband Wes, all of Baird and five great grandchildren, Tyler Dean Ray, Kaleb Andrew Ray, Luke Trynton Reynolds, Bentley Dwight Reynolds and Mia Blayke Reynolds.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Delfina Sanchez.
