Marijan Arleen Alford Garvin, 90 of Houston, formerly of Clyde, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Cherry Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Terrill officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow in Potosi Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.

Marijan (known to her friends as "Arleen") was born February 22, 1934, in Garland to Moody Rufus and Drefka (Yates) Alford. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1952 where she won many prestigious journalism and band awards.  She married Fred Garvin of Lueders, Texas after meeting at Hardin Simmons University.  Arleen was a beloved pastor's wife, missionary, friend, and mother. With her husband, she went on to be appointed as a Home Missionary in both Arkansas and the Kansas Nebraska Baptist Convention. She served with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board (now NAMB) as an Association Missionary for over 25 years.

She served with her husband as a pastor's wife and later as an appointed home missionary in churches in Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.  Together they were in ministry for 55 years and for 22 of those years she served as the Office Administrator for the Kansas South Central Association of Southern Baptists in Winfield Kansas.

She is survived by three sons, Fred Allan Garvin and wife Karen of League City, Scott Arlen Garvin and wife Patty of Fosters, Alabama and Brent Daniel Garvin of Clarksville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; brother, Firman Perry Alford and two sons, Robert Moody Garvin and Perry Clayton Garvin.

Arleen will be remembered for her quick wit, charm, and unshakable love for her family and friends.
