Bernard E. (Bunky) Caffey, Sr., 88, of Abilene died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in a Clyde care center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco with Pastor Mike McKinney and Pastor Marc Norton officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Bernard was born November 9, 1929 in Brownwood to Jess and Lota Caffey. He attended school in Cisco. He worked for Barrett's Automotive for many years and later owned C&S Automotive in Abilene. He was a member of John Sayles Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Abilene Car Association. When his children were younger he coached little league and was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Abilene Optimist Club of which in 1960 he was Optimist of the Year. Bernard loved drag racing, hunting and fishing and was a Baptist.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara Havner and husband Mike of Clyde; six grandchildren, Christina Havner of Clyde, Tracy Lynn Talley and husband Jordan of Abilene, Michael Caffey of Abilene, Shawn Caffey of Abilene, Ninna Caffey and Michelle Self and husband Jason of Baird; ten great grandchildren, Joseph, Spencer, Kylie and Landree Caffey, Keeley Cathey, Jensen Talley, Halley, Dillon, Eli and Madison Self; special nieces and nephews, Mary Blair, Virginia Morris, Patti Rafferty and Len Whiteley,; special family friends Michael and Shirlee Williams of Abilene and numerous other relatives and friends.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bernard Caffey, Jr., nephews, Troy and Richard Caffey, brother Jessie Caffey, Jr. and sisters Barbara Kofield and Dorothy Lovell.
