Blayne Edsel Buchanan, 71, of Baird, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, with his wife by his side after a brief illness. A graveside memorial will be held at the Eula Cemetery on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Roysden officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Blayne was born on August 12, 1952, to Hilary and JoAnn (Harris) Buchanan-Wagley.  Blayne graduated from Putnam High School and was a member of Wylie Christian Church in Abilene.  Blayne grew up on a bulldozer working for Wagley Construction with his stepfather Hurshel Wagley, and brother Richard.  He then went on to work for his best friend, Melvin Holland, at Holland Dozers.

Blayne enjoyed sitting on the porch after work and spending time with his wife Melynda and their dogs, Zoe, Zena, Goober, and the newest addition Sid. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Blayne's passion was in his work and the true love of his life was sitting in a bulldozer, his happy place.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Melynda Buchanan of Baird; sons Bo Buchanan of Baird; Joe Buchanan of Cross Plains; daughter Shaney Ellis and husband Paul Ellis of Wichita Falls; son Devin Joy of Clyde, two brothers Conrad Buchanan of Clyde and Richard Wagley of Abilene; five grandchildren, Morgan, Maddie, and Maggie Buchanan, Landon Ellis, Layden Joy; one great grandson, Grayson and numerous nieces and nephews; and last, but not least, Melvin Holland (whom he loved like a brother) and the entire Holland family and crew.

Blayne was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Hurshel Wagley, brother, Brent Buchanan, sister, Jean Ann Smith, brother Craig Buchanan, and granddaughter Cori Ellis.
