Obituary

Buford Allen Phillips, 85, of Eula, died Thursday, June 29, 2023, at an Abilene hospital.  Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde.

Buford was born April 25, 1937, in Jal, New Mexico, to Buford Alvin and Mildred Irene (Shults) Phillips.  He graduated from Bronte High School and attended Abilene Christian College.  He married Dee Weldon on December 2, 1966, in Belton.  They moved to Eula from Abilene in 1969.  Buford was a Baptist.

Buford was a paint salesman for Kelly-Moore Paints until starting his own contract painting company.  He enjoyed camping with his family as well as hunting and fishing.  Before he passed, Buford was planning for the upcoming deer season.

Buford is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dee Phillips of Eula; four sons, Rodney Holloway and wife Julie of Eula, James "Jay" Shelton of Eula, Michael "Mickey" Phillips of Eula and Buford "B A" Phillips and wife April of Puyallup, Washington; one daughter, Sherry Phillips of Belton; one sister, Juanita Shirley and husband Wayne of San Antonio; one sister-in-law, Connie Phillips of Harker Heights; one brother-in-law, Leon Brian of Comanche; four grandchildren, Amiee Shelton, Timothy Dawson, and Zeke and Bodie Phillips; and special friends Myrl and Kim Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Patsy Dawson-Shelton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Milford and Betty Phillips and Douglas and Patsy Phillips; two sisters, Ruth Waldon and Maetta Rice; and brother-in-law, Bob Waldon.
