Yvonne Carrie Howell passed away peacefully the morning of September 22nd, 2022, to be with the Lord. Carrie was born on August 3, 1942, in Tolar, Texas. While attending East Texas State to pursue a degree in education, she met her husband, Bob Howell. On August 23rd of this year, they had been married 59 years.

Carrie taught high school math for 33 years and touched the lives of so many students. Her light was on at 7 AM in the morning and 7 PM at night to tutor. She never cared about their background, just the opportunity to be a positive influence. She helped her students to reach their full potential as many went on to become teachers themselves and many other successful careers.

On the golf course, Carrie Howell was a force to be reckoned with. She didn't play in high school or college and had no fancy lessons. But she would go out in the pasture and hit golf balls until the sun went down, time and time again. She developed extraordinary talent of which she was always humble and just showed up to play. One year at a tournament in Grand Junction, she was in the lead until she scored a 13 on a par 4. The next year, she went back and won the whole thing. She was never a quitter.

In addition to being a wife to Bob, Carrie was a mom to two sons and "Mama C" to six grandchildren. She ensured they all knew how much she cared for and loved each one of them. Her actions always spoke louder than her words. As a wife, mother, teacher, and golfer she firmly believed in living a life founded on integrity and genuine care for others that had no bounds. To her, a lavish life had nothing to do with wealth but rather exhibiting and helping others build rich character. This was largely displayed to Carrie through her mother's deep adoration of Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold."

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Odel and Virgie Nix, her brothers Carroll Nix and Doug Nix, and her son Leland Howell. She is survived by her husband Bob of 59 years, her sister Sylvia Curry, her son Dyron Howell and wife Kelly, and grandchildren Dustin Howell and wife Olivia, Bo Howell and wife Cia, Jared Howell and wife Grace, K'Lynn Cavicchi and husband Joe, Lexa Howell, Elise Howell, and daughter-in-law Lori as well as many other family members and dear friends. She was so loved and will be greatly missed by all. In leu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to their favorite charity.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel of Clyde. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
