Charles Steven (Chuck) Patton was born August 21, 1954, in Abilene, Texas and passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 71.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 19th, at First Baptist Church in Clyde, Texas (216 Austin Street) under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home. Reception/visitation will be held immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall. 

After graduating from Clyde High School in 1972, Chuck worked for 52 years as a diesel mechanic, starting at his father’s business, Patton Equipment Company. In 1995, he moved next door to Abilene Diesel Injection Service, where he worked for his brother, Mike, until his retirement in August 2024. His handyman skills also extended outside of the mechanic shop. You could frequently find him fixing up something around the house, chopping down a wayward tree, or generally tinkering with things that other people might have already written off as junk.

Cycling was Chuck’s decades long passion, spending over 30 years and clocking countless miles in the saddle. After a hard bike ride, you’d likely find him watching a NASCAR race and working through his book of crossword puzzles.

A man of profound Christian faith, Chuck lived by his beliefs. He was a long time member of Abilene Bible Church where he highly valued the conversations over scripture every week in Sunday School class.

Those who knew him will forever remember his work ethic, unwavering faith, his intellectual and spiritual insight, and the wit with which he shared the vast amount of knowledge he possessed. You could always count on Chuck to recall the most minute of details and tell you exactly like it is.

Chuck deeply loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Amy Patton (of Abilene); his children, Meg Patton and husband Steven Stump (of Austin), Jo Bury and husband Chris (of Abilene), Brian Patton (of Abilene), and his grandson Everest Bury; his siblings, Mike Patton, Buddy Patton, Peggy Noice, Pam Loper, Paula Patton and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Max and Jon Ann Patton; his sister, Pat (Sis) Hunt; his brother, Jamie Patton, and two nephews, Micah Lindstrom and Chris Noice.
