Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Otis Walshak, 81, of Albany died Wednesday, February 21, 2018, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Albany with Pastor Brad McBee officiating. Burial will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Charlie was born October 25, 1936, in Woodsboro, Texas to Leo and Sarah (Humble) Walshak. He attended school in the Houston area.  He then served in the U.S. Navy.  Upon returning from the Navy, he attended the University of Houston and graduated with a degree in Gas and Diesel Mechanics. He married Mariann Vick in Brenham, December 15, 1971, and they moved to Albany from Magnolia in December of 1990. He was a diesel mechanic for over 50 years and a member of the First Christian Church of Albany.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mariann Walshak of Albany; five sons, Joe Walshak and wife Jeannie of Mustang, Oklahoma, Dwayne Walshak of New Caney; Buddy Walshak and wife Stacey of Crosby; Mike Hassell of Albany; Josh Hassell of Albany; daughter Cynthia Hassell of Albany; daughter-in-law Renata Walshak of Kellyville, Oklahoma; brother Keith Walshak of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Dorothy Gurka of Splendora and Janie Walshak of Brenham; 13 grandchildren, Jerry Jr. (Tiger) Walshak, Steven Walshak, Kaitlyn Walshak, Amanda Wright, Lisa Naron, Sydney Walshak, Gavin Walshak, Trevor Walshak, Meghan Borden, Cody Walshak, Samuel Hibbard, Spencer Hibbard, Ashton Hassell and Ashley Nicole Loftin; eight great-grandchildren; close family friends Casey Gillit and wife Azenetha and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Charles Walshak, Jr. and Jerry Walshak, Sr., three brothers, Rocky, Robert and Forest Walshak.
