Charlotte Marie Mendez, 48, of Baird died Sunday, June 4, 2023, in an Abilene hospital. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Ross Cemetery in Baird under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be held from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Charlotte was born April 5, 1975, in Albany to Joe Ben and Ruth Ann (Jones) Covington. She attended Baird High School and married Jesse Mendez in Baird in 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse, of Baird; three sons, Jesse Mendez, Jr. and wife Shelby of Springfield, Missouri, Levi Garrett Mendez and Adam Angel Mendez, both of Baird; two brothers, Clifford Covington of Fort Worth and Joe Covington, Jr. of Russellville, Arkansas; three sisters, Janet Salazar of Miles, Sheila Olvera of Russellville, Arkansas and Maria Guifarro of Russellville, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Eli Mendez, Rory Mendez, Isaac Mendez, Carmilla Ann Mendez and Wyatt Lee Mendez; stepdaughter, Mindy Rodriguez; stepson, Josh Mendez; nieces, Ruth Ann Covington and Milagros Guifarro; nephew, Curtis Covington and many other nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Joe; sister, Jo Ann Covington and three brothers, Gene, Benjamin and David Covington.
