Rev. Clayton Pennington, Jr., 89, of Clyde died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3 ^rd in the Post Cemetery in Post, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Clayton was born September 13, 1928 in Coleman to Marvin and Martha (Horton) Pennington. He graduated from Post High School and received his Bachelor Degree from Hardin Simmons University. He married Merrel Faye Eckols in Post on September 25, 1948. Clayton had been a minister since 1960. He preached in West Texas for many years and retired from Denton Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son Danny Pennington and wife Sheryl of Clyde; two daughters, Rhonda Hicks of Clyde and Sheila Pennington of Clyde; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Clayton was preceded in death by his wife Merrell in 2016, sister Wanda Nabors and brother Bobby Ray Pennington.
