Obituary

Cynthia Colleen (Hargrove) Smith, a resident of Clyde, Texas, graduated from this life into Jesus' arms and got all her questions answered on December 29, 2025. She lived her faith quietly but deeply. Like many people of strong faith, Cyndie still had questions she looked forward to asking God someday, but she continued to trust Him even in the wondering. In one of her journal entries, she wrote: "The Lord has been in my life for many years. I can look back and see His hand in so much I have done…Thank You, Lord, for showing me how to listen and what to do." She loved her women's prayer group, carefully writing, sharing, and praying over every request. She also loved singing on the worship team. She will be remembered with love as a prayer warrior and faithful member of Cowboy Heritage Church in Clyde, Texas.

Cyndie was born in Douglas, Arizona, on May 26, 1950, but lived most of her life in El Paso, Texas, and married her high school sweetheart Eugene (Gene) Thurston Smith on June 20, 1969. After being a stay-at-home mom and spending time volunteering in hospitals and school classrooms, she decided to go to college, graduating with her BS in Elementary Education in 1999 from New Mexico State University. She taught in the Gadsden Independent School District in New Mexico, ending her career at Loma Linda Elementary, teaching Kindergarten, a grade she fell in love with. After teaching for 14 years, she retired in 2013, first to Everett, Washington, then to their forever home in Clyde, Texas.

Cyndie is preceded in death by her father, John Fletcher (Bill) Hargrove, her mother, Colleen Delores (Smith) Hargrove, and her sister, Mitzi Yvonne (Hargrove) Bond, all of El Paso, Texas, as well as two unborn children. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Eugene (Gene) Thurston Smith of Clyde, Texas, her children, Lisa Diane (Smith) Teague (Kelly) of Belleville, Illinois; Timothy Robert Smith (Sara) of Buda, Texas; and Gena Colleen (Smith) Anderson (Doug) of Monroe, Washington. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Abigail Colleen Smith (25), Colleen Rose Wahrmund (22), Jalyn Brooke Wahrmund (20), Emma Catherine Smith (15), Beckett Thurston Smith (10); step-grandsons Holden, Nick, and Jordan; and two step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jennifer (Hargrove) McLellan and her brother Kelly Bill Hargrove, and in-laws James Thomas Bond (Stephanie), William McLellan, and Brenda (Cottrell) Hargrove, all of Van, Texas. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
