Obituary

Darlene Beatrice Houston, 101, of Clyde passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, in a Clyde nursing center. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Darlene was born on September 6, 1923, in Eula to the late W.P. (Pleas) and Iva (Barr) Reed. She attended schools in Denton Valley and Eula. She married Edward V. Houston on February 5, 1965, and he preceded her in death in 1995. Darlene was a lifelong resident of Callahan County and worked for Rita Barber in Abilene as a seamstress for over 20 years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Goates and wife Paula of Alachua, Florida and Darrel Goates and wife Paula of Clyde; one daughter, Darla Lynn Cauthen and husband James "Pete" of Clyde; sister, Diane Roberts of Harlan, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Drew, Terry, Kevin, James, Trennon, Bryan and Chad; twenty-three great grandchildren and eighteen great-great grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her daughter, Debbie Byars; brother, Bill Reed; sisters, Betty Kelly, Dale Lonergan, Billie Unrein and Margaret Bogie and her granddaughter, Shane Harris.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Clyde Nursing Center and Hospice of the Big Country for their wonderful care and devotion for Darlene.
