Dewey Frazier "Doc" Shropshire, 85, of Abilene, passed away Friday, November 28, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2018 Highland Ave., Abilene, Texas with Darren Alaniz officiating.
Doc was born April 15, 1940, in Lamesa to George Dewey and Bessie Mae (Nelson) Shropshire. He graduated from Belton High School in 1955. On December 15, 1956, he married Shirley Ivey in Cleburne.
Doc worked as a carpenter for many years, as a milkman with Borden's Milk Company and co-owned a janitorial and chemical supply company. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on October 17, 1953, and was a full-time minister for many years. He also served as an elder in numerous congregations in West Texas during his life.
Doc loved reading books and learning new things. He enjoyed studying history and especially found delight in doing research into the Bible and sharing what he found with others.
He is survived by his son, Steve Shropshire and wife Mary of Buffalo Gap; son-in-law, Ed Watts of Ranger; brother-in-law, Lowell Ivey and wife Pat of Lometa; one granddaughter, Julie Watts Carman and husband Jeromee of Stephenville; two great grandchildren, Jamie and John-Luke; nieces and nephew, Grace Ann Ortiz of Surprise, Arizona, Michelle McDermott of Midland and David Ivey of Lampasas, along with many dear friends that he considered family.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Shropshire; his daughter, Lisa Shropshire Watts; three brothers, Pat Shropshire, Donnie McKee and Buster McKee; his sister, Frances Lee Slatton and his wife of 68 years, Shirley.
