Don Edward James, 86, of Clyde died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chuck Farina and Pastor Mike McGough officiating. A private burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Don was born May 6, 1936, in Anson to Herman Alton and Ola Mae (Hinkle) James. He attended schools in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married Joanne Yarbrough in Abilene on June 6, 1959. Don owned and operated Chaparral Roofing and Insulation from 1992 until his retirement in 2012. He had also previously worked for the Abilene Post Office and was a member of New Life Fellowship Church in Clyde.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne James of Clyde; two sons, Joe Don James and wife Tracey of Crockett and Paul James and wife Jeri of Clyde; two sisters, Monteva Elaine Vinson and husband Dub of Ovalo and Heidi Bagley of Tuscola; eight grandchildren, Vanessa Bailey, Joshua James, Jacob James, Ashley Pickering, Sarah Pickering, Misti Stulsky, Ashley Smith and Jennifer Kimmel; nine great grandchildren, Remington, Kennedy, Kashton, Korin, Katelynn, Mikey, Jackson, Emily and Atlas and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jeremy Don James and his brother, Bill Jeffrey James.
