Donald Vernon Howard, 90, of Baird, Texas died Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Clyde Nursing Center.

Don was born February 17, 1930 in Burkburnett, Texas to Chester Vernon and Willie Ruth (Garland) Howard. He graduated from Burkburnett High School 1948, served honorably in the United States Navy from June 1948 through May 1952, and later attended Lee College in Baytown, TX. Don was a voracious reader, marathon runner, and lifelong weightlifter, who loved family and friends and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Herta Howard (nee Bunn) of Clyde; two daughters, Monika Bennett of Fort Worth, TX, and Doris Coward of Abilene, TX; and children from his previous marriage, Lea Ann Howard of Baltimore, MD, Mark V. Howard, and Steve H. Howard. He was a loving granddad to Madeleine Howard-Frank, Andrew Bennett, Piper Bennett, Darrell Coward, Zach Coward, and Joe Roberson and ten great grandchildren.
