Donnie Dale (D.D.) Moorhead, 85, of Breckenridge passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, in a Graham nursing home.

Donnie was born January 26, 1938, in Stonewall County to L.D. Moorhead and Sally Juanita (Meador) Moorhead of Peacock, Texas. Donnie married Margaret (Sue) West of Breckenridge on May 7, 1982, in Breckenridge. Preceding him in death were his father, L.D. Moorhead; mother, Sally Moorhead; brothers, L.D. Moorhead, Jr. and Dannie Gene Moorhead and daughter, Cindy Jenkins.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sue Moorhead; brothers, Roonie Moorhead and wife Debbie of Aspermont, Dale Moorhead and wife Dixie of Center Point; daughter, Mickey Dow and husband Ocey of Mineral Wells; step-daughter, Teresa McGehee and husband Terry of Graham; nephews, Matthew Moorhead, Michael Moorhead, Kelly Moorhead, Stephen Ellis and Leanna; three grandchildren, Jody Jenkins and Nancy of Ranger, Aron McGehee and Jennifer of Graham and Talina Harden and husband Zach of Bryson and numerous great grandchildren.

He was raised in Stonewall County. The days of his childhood were spent with his best friends – his brothers. The brothers spent their time fishing, hunting, playing baseball, working on cars and exploring Double Mountain in Stonewall County. He graduated one year early from high school and then attended college in Pueblo, Colorado for telegraphy. Santa Fe Railroad recruited him to become a railroad depot manager and later an area depot manager for West and South Texas.

Featherlite Corp. offered him an office manager position. He moved to Ranger, Texas and worked for them for 12 to 15 years in Ranger and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hurricane Betsy hit while he was living in Baton Rouge, so he moved back to Ranger.

He attended the Stenography Institute in Abilene, where he graduated top of his class. He was recruited to Socorro, New Mexico to work on a high-profile case that lasted over three years to complete. After moving to Breckenridge, he worked in the oilfield until retirement.
