Doris Faye
Caffey
Apr 30, 1947 — Aug 24, 2025
On April 30, 1947, Doris Faye Bahlmann Caffey was welcomed into the lives and home of Gertrude and Rudy Bahlmann, in Winters. Texas. Two older sisters, Patricia (Pat) and Kathleen (Kay) were excited to have their new baby sister join the family.
Doris grew up in the Old Norton Church of Christ, where she first learned to love Jesus, and where the Bryan family was a big part of her young life. She attended school in the Norton community and began playing basketball in the seventh grade as a quick and aggressive point guard. Her sophomore year she received a recruiting letter to play for the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens upon graduation. However, there was a young man who made a better offer and on May 17,1963, Doris married the love of her life, Bill Caffey. Their union was blessed with two sons, Dean and Shayne.
The boys were avidly supported as Clyde Bulldogs by their Mom and Dad. Two more generations have been the delight of their lives with their athletic activities in the Clyde school system.
Doris and her two sisters worked together in continuing their love for the Norton Eagles by bringing school mates together every year for a time of remembering when they were young, as well as with the Forming Faith Foundations Ladies' Retreat.
Doris returned to continue her education, earning her associates degree at Cisco Junior college in 1975. Upon completion of her studies she worked for some time at Abilene State Supported Living Center.
As her family grew and matured, Doris spent many hours enjoying camping at the lake with her family, which always resulted in a family fish fry.
Northwest Church of Christ was the place where Bill and Doris faithfully worshiped during the past several years.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Pat McClish, her in-laws Willie T. and Martha Caffey, Eddie & Earlene Alexander, Carolyn & Bub Caffey, brothers-in-law Hollis Talley and Jamie Simon. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Bill, her sons Dean (Becky), Shayne (Darlene and family), grandchildren Kyla Hecht (Joseph) and Zac Caffey (Caitlyn}, great-grandchildren Cameron Seelke, and Aiden Hecht, sister-in-law Jean O'Dell, sisters Kay Talley (Danny Leach), Catherine Burton, Debra Simon, brother-in-law Gary McClish, and numerous nieces and nephews,
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hope Lodge, 3511 10th St., Lubbock, Texas 79415; West Texas Rehab's Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St. Abilene, TX 79605 or Northwest Church of Christ, 1141 N Willis, Abilene, TX 79603.
There will be a potluck Celebration of Life meal at noon on Saturday, August 30th at 9340 CR 250 Clyde. All friends and family who would like to honor Doris by bringing a covered dish and sharing memories as we mingle with others are encouraged to come be a part of this time.
