Obituary

Dorothy Mae Woody, age 103, passed away on Friday the 20th of June, 2025.  Dorothy was born on March 22, 1922, to William Franklin Woody and Emma Mae Bennett Woody in Cottonwood, Texas.  She graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1941.  She was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ.  Dorothy never married but she was never without family around her.

Dorothy worked at the San Diego Transit Authority in California for 5 years, receiving a 5-year Safe Driver Award as well as a Chief of Police Safe Driver Award in 1948, which was noted "Mileage Operated 13,695 Miles". Dorothy had 60 hours of Practical and Related Instruction through the San Diego Vocational School Aircraft Electrical Assembly, finishing in 1951. Dorothy worked from January 1952 to April 1962, with the San Diego Division of Vultee/Convair/General Dynamics retiring in October 1963. Dorothy completed a P. B. X. Receptionist Course in November of 1962, and an IBM Key Punch 50-hour course in January 1963 all through the American P. B. X. School in San Diego, California.  Dorothy worked at the Hughes Aircraft Company in San Diego, California from March 1963 to January 1964. Dorothy then moved back home to Texas and worked with Texas Instruments in Ft. Worth, Texas for 20 years. She then moved to Cross Plains to take care of her mother, Emma. They moved to Clyde soon afterwards.

Dorothy Woody was predeceased by her parents, her brother Edgar Lewis Woody and two sisters, Nelda Woody Wilcoxen and Minnie Lois Woody. Her sister-in-law, Sally Pearl Woody and brother-in-law, Edwin Eugene Wilcoxen. Her nephew, Marvin Leland Wilcoxen and five nephew-in-laws; Jim Willis, Randy Johnson, Don Crawford, David Fritz Sr and Kermit Fritz.  She also lost a great-great-grandniece, Pearl Mae Royal.

Dorothy Woody is survived by six Nieces; Myrle Willis, Geneva Johnson, Barbara Payne and husband Tommy, Thaila Robertson and husband Jim, Rhonda Crawford and Kathy Gonzales and husband Johnny. four Great-nephews; David Fritz and wife Mandy, Eric Johnson and Matt Robertson and wife Alecia, Cody Gonzales and wife Kaylee.  Ten Great-nieces; Carrie Wood and husband Eugene, Courtney Gonzales and wife Rebecca, Kandle Torres and husband Manny, Alisa Oswalt, Sonia Oxford and husband Jimmy, Shelley Willis, Lori Anderson and husband Dennis, Vicki Barnett and husband Kent, Ginger Chaffin and husband David, Erin McEvoy and husband Todd.  Twenty-one Great-grandnieces, sixteen Great-grandnephews, twelve Great-great-grandnieces, eleven Great-great-grandnephews, two Great-great-great-grandnephews and four Great-great-great-grandnieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with David Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Plains Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
