Carrol Douglas "Doug" Ford of Clyde, Texas passed from his earthly home to go to his heavenly home on July 1, 2026, at the age of 87. Douglas was born on January 8, 1939, in Hamlin, Texas to Joe and Lottie Hix Ford, the youngest of seven boys and four girls.

Douglas was raised on a farm near Hamlin in Jones County; and he graduated from Hamlin High School in 1957. He attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas and graduated in August 1961 with a BBA Degree. During his senior year of college, he worked part-time at First National Bank, and he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Cochran.

While in college, Doug served for four years in the Texas National Guard. After graduation, he took a job in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico with the Hot Springs National Bank. Doug was very active in different jobs in the bank and in serving the community. He was elected to the Board of Directors at age 25; the youngest person in New Mexico to serve as a director. He became a Master Mason in Bethesda Lodge. His son, Kyle, was born while in Truth or Consequences.

In December 1966, Doug was employed with First State Bank, Tuscola, Texas as Vice President and Cashier and a member of the Board of Directors. While in Tuscola, Doug was active in a National Bank Organization and served as the President of the Abilene Chapter. He also served as an ordained Deacon in Tuscola Baptist Church and served as President of the South Taylor Lions Club. Daughter Kathaleen was born in Abilene.

After 5 years with First State Bank in Tuscola, Doug moved his family to Clyde and became President/CEO of Peoples State Bank at the age of 32. Doug served in this position for 35 years. During his tenure as CEO of the Clyde bank, he successfully negotiated the purchase of three other banks and grew the Bank to $116 million in total assets. After selling the Peoples State Bank to First National Abilene in 2004, Doug continued working as a Director and Loan and Discount Committee member at the Eastland Bank as they merged with Peoples State Bank Ranger and Rising Star. In 2011, Doug was recognized by the Texas Bankers Association with the 50-year Banker Award.

Doug had a tremendous impact on the various communities where the Bank had operations, where he served through charitable activities and service on many boards and committees. He was involved in the Clyde Lions Club, Chairman of the Deacon Body at First Baptist Clyde for 3 years, President of the Clyde Chamber of Commerce and helped with numerous other community projects. Doug’s two children attended and graduated from Clyde High School and were active in 4-H and FFA. Doug was the founding Chairman and President of the Callahan County Livestock Sales Committee which raised funds to purchase prize winning livestock of students at the Callahan County Livestock Show. He and his family enjoyed being in various activities, always helping the boys and girls in their school and church activities.

Doug was a supporter of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and worked with the Cattleman’s Roundup for many years. He sold tickets at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo for 30 years, which was an activity that he enjoyed because it was an opportunity to visit with people.

Doug was elected to the Board of Directors of Disability Resources in 2000 and continued to serve in this position for several years. His son, Kyle, was a resident at Disability Resources for 20+ years. Doug felt that serving on this Board was a blessing to be able to assist those with disabilities.

In 2012, Doug was honored at an Appreciation Night. He was presented with the Golden Trowel Award and a Certificate of Lifetime Membership by the Clyde Masonic Lodge. The Golden Trowel is the highest award that can be bestowed on a local Mason. At the time, he had been a Mason for over 46 years. The City of Clyde, Clyde Lions Club and Clyde ISD all presented Certificates of Appreciation for his work in the community. Doug had been a member of the Clyde ISD Facilities Improvement Committee which was instrumental in approving the bonds to construct the new Clyde Elementary School, the Naoma Huff Performing Arts Center and Bulldog Stadium. The City of Clyde declared April 9, 2019, as “Doug Ford Day” and he was recognized by the Heritage Recognition Program for his long-term contributions to the City of Clyde and surrounding area.

Doug enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He bred a number of show steers for his kids and other 4-H and FFA students. Doug and Ann often travelled with various groups to visit locations throughout the country. They enjoyed keeping their grandkids during the summer and teaching them to drive, hunt and fish. At age 72, Doug retired and worked on his farm and enjoyed watching his two grandchildren play various sports.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ann; his son Kyle and his 10 siblings. Doug is survived by his daughter, Kathaleen Smith and husband Jeff of Austin, TX; grandson Dillon Smith and wife Callen of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughter Kristen Smith of Austin, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Wisteria Memory Care at Legacy Lane and Kinder Hearts Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during Doug’s time with them. We are forever grateful to Mitch and Lisa Ezell. Their unwavering kindness and regular care for Doug went above and beyond, making them a true blessing to Doug and our family.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Clyde with Brother Larry Hooper officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist.  A private burial will follow in the Clyde Cemetery.
