Doyle Ray "Shorty" Tennison, 85, of Baird died Monday, November 27, 2023, in an Abilene hospital.  Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Ross Cemetery in Baird with Rev. Larry Hooper officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home in Clyde. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shorty was born June 1, 1938, in Cross Plains to Herman Franklin and Laura Neoma (Avery) Tennison.  He attended Cross Plains Elementary School and Abilene High School.  He lived in Abilene and Callahan County his whole life.  Shorty married Mickie Howle in Eastland on September 14, 1968.  She preceded him in death May 4, 2020.

Shorty was a barber having owned the Bulldog Barber in Clyde and U-Bar-U in Baird.  He served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the First Assembly in Abilene.

He is survived by one son, Michael Tennison and wife Aleta; one daughter, Laura Tennison of Baird; one granddaughter, Bree Tennison; one brother, Dale Tennison; one sister, Juanita Beebe and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Don and Doug Tennison.
