Eddie (Ed) Dean Clayton, 73, of Clyde died Monday, August 30, 2021 in an Abilene hospital. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Ed was born November 1, 1947 in Harrison, Arkansas to Willis Leonard and Claudia Pearl (McDowell) Clayton. He moved to Clyde from Pampa in 1961 and graduated from Clyde High School. He attended Cisco Junior College and TSTC, earning his degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Viet Nam, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Ed was a truck driver and a member of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
He is survived by three sons, Jim Clayton and wife Lincoln of Van, Leonard Clayton of Clyde and Kevin Clayton and wife Amy of Clyde; his wife of 24 years, Ginger Clayton, daughter, Debbie Faircloth of Baird; brother, Paul David Clayton of Clyde; two sisters, Sherilyn Simmons of Baird and Ramona Hurst of Clyde and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Eddie Dean Clayton, II and two sisters, LaDonna Clayton and Lynn Harris.
