Elray (Ray) Yates, 92, of Clyde died Saturday, March 10, 2018 in an Abilene hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Clyde Cemetery with David Peterson officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Ray was born May 28, 1925 in Abilene to James and Geneva (Gorden) Yates. He attended Abilene High School. Ray moved to Ft. Worth in 1952 where he worked as a metal worker installing awnings at drive-ins and fast food restaurants. On weekends he played bass fiddle for various country western bands in the 50's and 60's. After retiring, he returned to Clyde to be near his family. He was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Jo Yates of Clyde; nephews, Wayne Yates and wife Teresa of Clyde and Eddie Yates and wife Nicola of Uvalde; great nieces and nephews, Jerod Yates and wife Amy, Brandon Yates and wife Jessica of Pflugerville, Chanda Jones and husband Donald of Abilene, Hunter Yates, Audra Yates of Uvalde, Emily Riley and husband Justin of Abilene and Kelsey Crowsey and husband Brandon of Uvalde; great-great nieces and nephews, Allie, Landon, Kate, Avery, Harper Jo Yates and Kinsley and Dax Jones.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Garves Yates.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Barbara Welch for her being such a wonderful caregiver and friend to Ray.
