Eva Mae Puryear, 86, of Clyde died Thursday, February 20, 2020 in the Clyde Nursing Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Clyde Cemetery with Claude Fry officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Eva was born January 26, 1934 in Cottonwood to Charlie Clinton and R.Minnie (Flowers) Wheeler. Eva was the youngest of nine children, five brothers and three sisters. She grew up in Brown County, Ector County and Howard County. Eva worked at many of the nursing homes around Abilene and the Abilene State School. She really loved playing dominoes and 42 with her family and friends, especially her nurse Edith. She had a unique hobby of painting and decorating rocks. She loved life. She was a resident of Clyde for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin Ralph Puryear, five brothers and two sisters, sons, Tommy Puryear and Ray Puryear, grandson Bobby Joe Puryear and granddaughter Melissa Puryear.
Eva is survived by two sons, Roy Puryear and wife Vicki of Clyde and Ricky Puryear and wife Verna of Baird; daughter in law Susie Puryear of Abilene; grandchildren, Roy and wife Deborah of Baird, Brian and wife Judith of Baird, Christy and husband Rickey of Eula, David and wife Amber of Leander, Tonya of Clyde, Jason and wife Mica of Burleson and Angel and husband Keaton of Lubbock; 16 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and one on the way; sister Valta Brock of Big Spring and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and her "family" of the Clyde Nursing Home.
