Evelyn
Lee
Oct 18, 1924 — Oct 31, 2024
Evelyn Wilson Lee passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, at her home in Clyde, Texas. Evelyn had just celebrated her 100th birthday a few weeks before her passing. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery in Abilene. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. on the same day at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde.
Evelyn was born in Lamesa, Texas on October 18, 1924, to W.S. and Carrie Wilson. Evelyn attended Abilene schools. After attending school, she continued to reside in Abilene. She and Arthur met and later married while he was stationed at Camp Barkeley during WW II. When Arthur (that Norwegian from Mayville, North Dakota) took one look at that Texas gal, he was hooked. They were married on April 13, 1943, in Abilene and were married for 70 years until his passing in 2013.
After many years of living in Abilene, Evelyn and Arthur and their children, Ronnie and Debbie, moved to Clyde in 1961. Evelyn was employed at several different grocery stores in Clyde. She was also a caregiver to both the elderly and the young. Evelyn was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Friends of the Library, the Cub/Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a devoted Christian and loved her church. She was a lifetime member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene. She also enjoyed attending worship at some of the Clyde local churches.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; her parents, W.S and Carrie Wilson; her older sister, Lennie Miller, and her two older brothers, L.R. Wilson and Carl Wilson.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Ronnie Lee (Elaine); her daughter, Debbie Nance (John); three grandchildren, Chandra Renz (Todd), Kris Nance (Loren) and Amanda Lee; five great grandchildren, Lucas and Kyle Gregory, Jackson Renz and Olivia and Oliver Nance; two sisters in law, Dorothy Grage and Lorraine Lee; numerous nephews and nieces; and she also leaves behind many friends.
A special thanks to the many caregivers who were devoted to our mom.
