Obituary

Floyd Harold Darnell, 72, of Abilene died Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene with Chaplain Burt Williams officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Floyd, lovingly known as Pink Floyd to family and friends, was born August 12, 1950, in Abilene to Floyd Harmon and Ollie Ellie (Bell) Darnell. He graduated from West Long Branch High School and attended the University of Maryland and TSTC. He served in the U.S. Army, entering in 1971 and retiring as staff sergeant in 1991. He was a POW in Laos for 2 ½ years with the White Communication Team.

He married Kandy Robertson in Baird on October 1, 2018, and he was a member of the Clyde First United Methodist Church. Floyd loved doing woodworking projects, hunting and fishing. He had previously worked for Chicken Express in Clyde, Chester's Chicken in Baird and was a cameraman for KTXS. He volunteered for 30 years for the West Texas Fair & Rodeo and volunteered many years for West Texas Heritage.  He was a sponsor for many people throughout the years in AA and NA.

He is survived by his wife, Kandice (Kandy) Darnell of Abilene; sons, Jeremy Lang Darnell of North Carolina and Billy Prince of Abilene; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Darnell of North Carolina; grandchildren, Alexis Paige Darnell of North Carolina, Thaddous Hazelwood of Abilene, Arwen Hazelwood of Georgia, Savannah McMillan of Port Arthur, Kendal McMillan of Port Arthur, Aariah Pulliam of Abilene and Deshaun Pulliam of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Lavaughn McMillan.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Big Country Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion for Floyd.
