Fred Marlin Barrett, 77, of Clyde passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 3 on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, at their home.

Fred was born January 20, 1947, in Georgia to William Marlin Barrett and Addie Darnell. He was not too proud to let anyone know his senior year in school was the third grade. Fred served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Rangers and served 2 tours in Vietnam. He moved to Clyde from Ranger in 1995 and was the owner and operator of Barrett Enterprises. Fred was a passionate calf roper and member of many associations including the USCRA, Ultimate Calf Roping Association, the WTRA, the NOTRA, and many other rodeo associations throughout his long calf roping career. He also played polo, and at one time was on the top-ranked 4 goal polo teams in the nation with Jeff Mero, Cody Woodfin, and Dale Rankin. Fred also traded performance horses all over the country.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Barrett of Clyde; two sons, Matt Barrett and wife Melissa of Celina, and Will Barrett and wife Pepper of Ranger; three daughters, Amber Barrett and Cliff Murphy of Clyde, Misty Roeder and husband Jim of Fredericksburg, and Stormy Barrett of Granbury; fourteen grandchildren, Wyatt "Jimbo" and wife Kaylene, Jade "Bubba" and wife Keithlynn, Shelby and husband Charles, Cole "Grandbaby", Dylan "Doobie", Bailey "Scooter", Ty, Trace Hayes, Ana Grace, Meg, Pixie "Cricket", Zac, Tessa "Rowdy", and Beckett and four great-grandchildren with two on the way. He was "Grandpa Fred" to numerous families that he loved including the Woods, the Slipkas, the Meros, the Grays, the Churchills, the Earles and many others. His advice was always cherished, and he always reminded the family that his wife training video was available whenever they needed it.
