Wilbert Gerald (Gary) Campbell, Jr., 75, of Clyde died Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in an Abilene hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Gary was born September 26, 1946, in Parkersburg, W. Virginia to Wilbert Gerald and Lois (Baumgartner) Campbell. He graduated from Ysleta High School in El Paso and earned his associate degree from McMurry. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving 20 years and retiring as Master Sergeant. During his service he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retiring from the Air Force in 1985, he went back to work in civil service at Dyess as a C-130 simulator technician and trainer. Gary loved to fish and hunt and was a member of the Baird American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Bailey Campbell; daughter, Tracy Needs of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Kathryn Champenois and husband Olivier of Tomball; brother, Richard Campbell and wife Jan of Felicity, Ohio; sister, Laura Jane (Cookie) Kimball of Ohio; four grandchildren, Taylor Daniel Needs, Dylan Alexander Needs, Christopher Harris Champenois and Chloe Marie Champenois; sister-in-law, Linda Wood and husband Johnny of Clyde and brother-in-law, Riley (Speedy) Bailey of Clyde.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Barry Jason Campbell and his brother, Daniel Campbell.
