Gary Douglas Stevens, 73, of Clyde passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel.

Gary was born August 1, 1951, in Coleman to Winifred Ardell (Steve) and Iva Mae (Blackie) Taylor Stevens. He graduated from Coleman High School and attended Howard Payne University. He married Doris Stewart in Brownwood in 1987. They have been in the Clyde area for over 27 years. Gary worked as a correctional officer for the Middleton Unit for many years and had previously worked as a photographer. He loved hunting, fishing and was an avid football fan. He was lovingly known as G-Pa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a good Christian man.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Doris Stevens of Clyde; one son, Robert Garland Tyner and wife, Carrie of Mineral Wells; one daughter, B.J. Richards of Mineral Wells; four grandchildren, Brooke Stanford, Ashley Surber and husband, Will, Adam Richards and wife, Irais and Trina Richards, all of Mineral Wells; nine great grandchildren, Ayden, Xander and Lidia Richards, Ezra, Asher, Cedar, Atlee and Valor Surber, all of Mineral Wells and Riley James and her daughter, Scarlett of Benjamin; son-in-law, Rick Stanford of Mineral Wells; nieces and nephews, Christie Smith and husband, Josh of Benjamin, Dalton James and wife, Jacey and their daughter, Saylor of Richland Springs, Hailey James of Hico, Justin Stevens of Cross Plains and Chase Stevens of Benjamin; special friend, Joe Guitierrez of Abilene; godson, Darian Guitierrez of Abilene and his hunting buddies, Mike Tomlinson and Mark Brown, both of Clyde.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Blackie Stevens; his daughter, Ginger Stanford; brother, Ronnie Stevens; sister, Charlotte Phillips and son-in-law, Steve Richards.
