Guy Edwin Hart, 92, of Clyde died Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Clyde Cemetery with Morris Johnson officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Now you're not going to believe this, but…..

On August 29, 1926, I was born in Arkansas City, Kansas at my sister's house. When I was two weeks old, my mother brought me home to Ralston, Oklahoma, where the rest of the family were. I was twelve years old when I got my first paying job. It was cleaning spittoons in the pool hall for ten cents a day. The second month after my sixteenth birthday, my mother died. I didn't want to live with one of my brothers or sisters, so I quit school and went to Tulsa and got a job. I know it was my mother's prayer that helped me to live there on skid row as a teenager without having any problems or getting into trouble.

In 1954, I went to work for Douglas Aircraft Company. My lead man tried to fire me three times but was never successful. I quit there and joined the United States Air Force. I received a good recommendation from the Douglas Aircraft anyway.

While in the Air Force, I did my basic training in San Antonio. I then went to tech school at Chanute AFB in Illinois, where I ran the Post Office for three months. Following tech school, I went to instructor school at Shepherd AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. I taught for five months at Shepherd.

I was transferred to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was there that I met Margaret. We were married in January of 1956, and got stuck in a snowbank as we left the wedding. My best man was driving! Nearby ranchers pulled us out.

Margaret and I were married for 43 years. We had two sons: Edward Leroy (Ed) Hart and Wayne Brett Hart and one grandson, Brett Wayne Hart.

We came to Dyess AFB in Abilene in 1957. I served in Tripoli, Africa, 1962-1965. It was there that Wayne was born. I served at Kelly AFB in San Antonio in 1966-1967. 1967-1968 found me in Viet Nam, where I served as a flight chief over eight aircraft (C123s). This was during the time of the Tet Offensive.

Margaret passed away at the age of 70 from breast cancer. Five years later, Ed invited me to Cherry Heights Baptist Church. I wandered into Cherry Heights and met "a shriveled up old woman" named Juanita, who was teaching Sunday School. I married her December 6, 2003. I really believe that, as the song says, "God Put Us Together." We enjoyed many road trips together around the country. When I married Juanita, I also acquired two step-sons, Jackie and Morris Johnson; six step grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren.

Now, you are going to believe this…..I was far from perfect! I experienced a lot of things in life: joy, sorrow, danger, happy times, not-so-happy times, times of hard work, times of relaxation, times of success, times of failure, times I remember with regret, times I remember with a smile. I loved music. I loved telling stories. I loved my country, retiring from the Air Force. I loved my family as best I knew how. But the most important thing I ever did was when I was about 13 or 14 years old. It was then that I committed my life to Jesus Christ and received His free gift of eternal life. He has been faithful to His promises, and I know I will be spending eternity in His presence. As Paul said a long time ago, "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day" (2 Timothy 1:12).
