Harce was born April 16, 1928, in Crews, Texas, to Lonnie Benton and Jodie Beatrice (Dean) Gibbs and attended school and lived in Crews for many years.  He worked for Dry's Enterprises in Winters where he was a supervisor.  He moved to Rising Star in 1963 and worked for Kohler in Brownwood until he retired.  Harce married Judy Smoot on August 9, 2014, at the Hwy. 36 Church of Christ and the couple moved to Eula.

Harce not only loved to rope; he also loved to dance.  He never met a stranger, always striking up a conversation with people he came into contact with and would ask them "Do you know the Lord?"  Harce lived life "his way."
