Obituary

Kenneth Jack Powers, age 81, passed from this earth on February 14, 2025, in the presence of his four children, in Abilene, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with Steve Ridgell officiating.

Born Jan. 27, 1944, in Abilene, Texas to Arnel & Lavonia Powers, Jack was raised on the family homestead in Eula, Texas. He attended Eula Schools, where he met Shirley Dipple, and married shortly after graduation. The couple had two children, Julie and Victor.

Jack was an avid boater, who loved to be on the water, especially at Possum Kingdom Lake. He was a lifetime resident of Eula, Texas and a proud supporter of the Eula Pirates, in all things, but none so much as Pirate Baseball. He loved the outdoors, be it hunting, coaching a baseball game, boating, checking cows, or babysitting a pit full of brisket (which no one cooked quite like him!), he was an outdoorsman, in every sense of the word. At the time of his passing, Jack was still in close contact with many of his high school friends, whom he spoke with quite often.

Jack was not a sit and be still kind of man. He enjoyed working and being productive and had many adventures throughout his life. A paper route at Abilene Reporter News, Pride Refinery, Sundance Construction, Ike's Landscaping, Greenway, working alongside his father as a farmer and at General Dynamics. He even took on the restaurant world, operating the Branding Iron in Abilene for a short time. But his time at a little computer shop on Grape Street, would prove to be his most meaningful, and greatest adventure yet. While co-owning Dynamic Computer Services, Jack met the love of his life, Tina Bromley. The two were married Dec. 6, 1980, and had two boys, Drew and Quinn. Sharing a beautiful life together for 38 years, they were members of Highland Church of Christ, and most recently Southern Hills Church of Christ. Jack and Tina were a dynamic duo, with the most devoted circle of friends, whom they loved dearly. They enjoyed hosting gatherings and watching all of their children grow up together. The pair were inseparable, until Tina's passing in 2018.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Marie Powers, his parents Arnel and Lavonia Powers, and sister Esther.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Young and husband Jimmy, of Abilene, Texas, son, Victor Powers and wife Summer, of Abilene, Texas, son, Drew Powers and wife Krissy, of New Albany, Indiana, and son, Quinn and wife Anne Marie, of Tomball, Texas; Grandchildren, Summer Cullins, Andrew Young and wife Angela, Wren Young and wife Heather, Lauren Courtney and husband Michael, Kolsen Powers and wife Racheal, Luke Powers, Grayson Powers, Kaylee Powers, Adalyn Powers; Great grandchildren, Swayzi Taye, Hallie Courtney, Riggins Young; Sister in law, Laura Deines and husband Tim, Brother in law, Clyde Aly, beloved nephews, Michael Aly, Trevor Deines, Cade Deines, and Braden Deines, lifetime friends, Lee and Kathy Oliver and Greg and Mary Anne Peay, and brother, Johnny Powers.
