James Carrol Edwards, 89, died Friday, August 27, 2021, at his farm south of Clyde. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Clyde Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Bailey-Howard Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, with Tommy Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the funeral home.
James was born July 20, 1932, in Jonesboro, Texas, to James Terry (J.T.) and Mattie Boone (Huckabee) Edwards. He was a graduate of Denton Valley High School. James married Willie Carrol Keller on September 30, 1953, in Clyde and they established their permanent residence in Clyde in 1964. James served in the US Air Force for four years and worked in civil service at Dyess Air Force Base for 28 years. He was a farmer and rancher in the Clyde area most of his life and was a long-time member of the Clyde Church of Christ. He enjoyed spending time fishing and camping with his beloved wife Willie.
James is survived by his three sons, Rickey Edwards and wife Gail of Breckenridge, Randy Edwards and wife Elaine of Clyde, and Ronnie Edwards and wife Rachel of Fulshear; one sister-in-law, Joyce Edwards of Clyde; eight grandchildren, Nikki Staggs and husband Brandon, Danella Edwards and fiancé Chris Palmer, Zan Wilson and husband Ty, D'nae Rutland and husband Matt, Derek Edwards and wife Tiffany, Hunter Edwards, Allison Edwards and Emily Edwards; ten great-grandchildren, Blake Lee, Chase Lee, Layton Anderson, Barret Wilson, Sway Wilson, J.T. Edwards, Starla Edwards, Cash Rutland, Silas Staggs and Seth Staggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willie Edwards; and his brother, Lyndon Edwards.
Memorials may be made to the local charity of choice.
