James Robert Trammell, 90, of Abilene and formerly of Clyde, died Saturday, August 28, 2021, at a local hospital.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene with Kathi Edwards officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.  Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Clyde.

James Robert Trammell was born on September 26, 1930 in Abilene at Hendrick Hospital. He was the only child of Cliff and Iva (Waldrop) Trammell. The family home was located at 2018 Antilley Road, the present location of the First Financial Bank. James graduated from Wylie High School in 1948. He attended Tarleton State College and transferred to Texas Tech College, where he completed a B.S. in Agriculture Science in 1952. Additionally, he earned an M. Ed. In Secondary Administration in 1962 from Abilene Christian College.

James married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie Jane Warford, on June 1, 1951 at Wylie Methodist Church. James and Bobbie lived in Colorado City, Texas from 1953 until 1963. While there, James taught Vocational Agriculture for eight years and then served as Junior High Principal for three years. They moved to Clyde, Texas in 1963 and James returned to teaching Vocational Agriculture. He loved the subject matter as well as the students he had the opportunity to guide. In 1982, he was named principal of Clyde High School, where he remained until his retirement in 1990. He felt honored to have dedicated 38 years to impacting the lives of students in public education. After retiring, he farmed and raised cattle on his ranch just west of Clyde.

James was a member of Clyde First United Methodist Church and the Believer's Sunday School Class. He also served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a Life Member of The Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, a Life Member of the Texas State Teachers Association, a member of the Abilene Retired Teachers Association, a Charter Member of Clyde Chamber of Commerce (Citizen of the Year), Clyde Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club (served as President). He also belonged to the American Hereford Association, American Quarter Horse Association, West Texas Brangus Association, Texas and Southern Cattle Raisers Association. James was blessed with many honors throughout his lifetime. Having a student become the Texas State FFA President in 1969-70 was a true highlight. Murray Edwards remained a close friend throughout the years. James received the Honorary American Farmer Degree. The Distinguished Service Award from The Vocational Ag Teachers Association. He also served as a member of the Clyde CISD School Board.

In 2004, James Trammell was honored by the Clyde Ex-Students Association for his dedication to the community and received a plaque on the CISD Wall of Honor. The quote under his picture says, "God blessed you: You blessed us and your memory and influence will remain forever".

James is survived by his daughters, Tammy Kasmai and husband Naser of Athens, Alabama and Torry Frazier and husband Alan of Clyde; grandsons, Talon Kasmai and wife Laurel of Madison, Alabama, Dr. Cameron Trammell Kasmai of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Kip Frazier of Clyde. Special to the family are great grandchildren, James Collier and Margot Moffatt Kasmai.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Bobbie Warford Trammell on November 8, 2020 and his parents, Cliff and Iva Trammell.

Tammy and Torry would like to express deep appreciation to Isabel, Tammy, Maria and Maggie. These ladies were longtime caregivers to James and Bobbie.
