Joe Richard Barnett, of Canadian, Texas, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, in an Abilene care facility at the age of 80 years and 5 months. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 12, 2022, at 11 AM at the Canadian Methodist Church with Rev. Lewis Holland and Rev. Danny Sanders officiating. There will be a private burial at Hollis, Oklahoma's Fairmount Cemetery later.

Joe was born on June 20, 1942, to Charles Thomas and Nettie Georgia (Prock) Barnett outside of Vinson, Oklahoma. At the age of 3, the family moved to what became the homestead one mile south of Hollis, Oklahoma. In high school, Joe worked for his brother Raymond helping run the funeral home and the ambulance. He also took a job through his distributive education class at a filling station. He did such a good job on a particular test that he won an award from the corporate office and a write-up in the Hollis News. Joe graduated from Hollis High School in 1960 and greatly enjoyed returning to the class reunions.

Joe attended and graduated from West Texas Barber College in Amarillo, Texas, in 1961. He worked as a barber for ten years before owning his own shop in the First National Bank Building. He then started Tower Barbers in the American National Bank Building in 1971. In 1976, he moved his family to Canadian to open Take V Family Hair Care in the old Hemphill County Hospital building (currently the Canadian Community Center). He retired fully from his barber shop and photography studio in 2016.

Joe learned portrait and wedding photography while still in Amarillo and operated Barnett Photography for many years. He also attended clown school in Amarillo and made several appearances as "Archi-Bald" at local civic functions and birthday parties. Joe served as an ambulance driver in Canadian, was a member and former president of the Canadian Kiwanis Club, which later became the Canadian Men's Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Canadian Golf Club, and the Canadian Methodist Church, especially enjoying his time on the missions committee and in the Seekers Sunday school class.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Winston, Lon, Raymond, Buster, Chester, and Afton Barnett, and his sister, Rachel Bailey.

Those left to remember Joe's stories and life lessons include a sister, Eunice Burgess of Frisco, Texas, two sisters-in-law, Cleta Halsey of Springboro, Ohio, and Joan Barnett of Corinth, Texas, his wife of 12 years, Mary Cornelson of Shattuck, Oklahoma, his wife of 38 years, Carolyn Barnett of Amarillo, Texas, daughter Cindy Brungardt and husband Wes of Garden City, Kansas, two sons, Joe Barnett, Jr. and wife, Stacy, of Wolfforth, Texas, and Monty Barnett and wife Ashley of Clyde, Texas, eight grandchildren, Kristina Claar and husband Kyle, Lauren Brungardt, Jacob Brungardt, Mallory Vaughan and husband Aaron, Adam Barnett and wife Destiny, Hannah Barnett, Caleb Barnett, and Hope Barnett, six great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kalea, Keira, Jude, Karsyn, and Lennon, innumerable nieces and nephews he delighted in and many treasured friends.
