Joe Sidney Nichols, 66, of Clyde died Monday, September 19, 2022, in an Abilene hospice facility. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Homer Galindo officiating. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Joe was born June 15, 1956, in Abilene to John Barnett and Vera Maxine (Stevens) Nichols. He attended school at Noodle and Jim Ned. Joe had many different jobs throughout the years and was a jack of all trades. He loved serving his community and was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Cynthia Hendricks in the Hendrick Medical Center Chapel in Abilene on December 30, 2001. Joe grew up in Jones County and had lived in the Clyde area for the last 16 years.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia Nichols of Clyde; son, Casey Nichols and wife Kerry of Clayton, North Carolina; daughter, Misti Rote and husband Fred of Poquoson, Virginia; four brothers, W.E. (Bill) Black and wife Mary of Abilene, Jerry Don Black and wife Babe of Coronados Camp, John B. Nichols and wife Florence of View and Dewey Lon Nichols and wife Carolyn of Merkel; two sisters, Melissa Smith and husband Millard of Anson and Carol Bushong of Iowa Park; four grandchildren, Kaleb Nichols, Madison Nichols, both of Clayton, North Carolina, Nicholas Rote of San Diego, California and Ashlyn Rote of Poquoson, Virginia; two aunts, Iva Nell Townzen and husband B.F. of Hawley and Maxine Stevens of Hodges; brothers-in-law, David Hendricks and Joe G. Gray, both of Clyde; his beloved dog Daisy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Lou Salazar; three aunts and three uncles.
