Karen Suzette Smythe, 68, of Clyde died Tuesday, October 27, 2020 in an Abilene hospice facility. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Clyde Cemetery with Pastor Larry Hooper officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Karen was born October 31, 1951 in Bloomington, Indiana to Jesse and Dorothy (Anderson) Gill. She graduated from Eastern Greene High School in Bloomfield, Indiana. She married Curtis Ray Smythe, Sr. on July 20, 1973 in Bloomington, Indiana and they moved to Clyde in 1980. She worked in the cafeteria for Clyde ISD, retiring after 25 years in 2017. Karen was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Clyde and volunteered for the Bible Baptist Church Food Pantry.
She is survived by her mother Dorothy Gill of Solsberry, Indiana; three sons, Jonathan Smythe of Clyde, Curtis Smythe, Jr. of Potosi and Dustin Smythe of Clyde; daughter Karen Allison Butman and husband Robert Butman of Gruver; two sisters, Loretta Zink and Judy Weaver and husband David, all of Solsberry, Indiana; five grandchildren, Sabrina Butman, Sierria Butman, Dakota Butman, Matthew Smythe and Christopher Smythe; one great granddaughter, Averie Butman; nephews, David McMillan and Tim Walker of Indiana and many other relatives and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her father and her husband Curtis in 2014.
