James Kenneth Kendrick, 80, of Clyde passed away Friday, May 14, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday , May 22, 2021 at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Clyde, Texas with DeWayne Bush officiating.

Kenneth was born February 20, 1941 in Abilene to Leon and Annie Jane (Tyler) Kendrick. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1959. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University with a degree in Business Administration. He married the love of his life, Kay Seymore, in Abilene on July 15, 1960. Kenneth was a resident of Callahan county most of his life and was proud of his family's history in the county.

Kenneth worked at Gooch Meat Packing Plant during his college years, Dresser Industries while in Alaska and the Internal Revenue Service. After retirement  he worked for Bailey-Howard Funeral Home.

He very much enjoyed living in Alaska while his children were growing up. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying his plane.

Kenneth, affectionally known as Poppa to his family, was a man of his word. He was reliable, steadfast, and above all, he was kind. He was a faithful follower of Christ, and he led by example. He was someone that both family and friends called upon for advice and a listening ear. He believed in leaving things better than you found them, doing the right thing, even when it wasn't convenient, and working hard. He took genuine joy in being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed taking the great grandchildren to the pasture. As they drove around looking for wildlife he told them stories about the past. He also loved to tell a good bear story and he loved to joke with them.

He was the rock of our large family. He was many things to all of us. But most of all, he was our Poppa and he was loved.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Kendrick of Clyde; four daughters and their families: daughter Kami and husband Jeff Seivert, grandsons Chase and Cameron of Bayfield, Colorado; daughter Kristi Kendrick Slagle and husband Tom Slagle of Lubbock, granddaughter Karami and husband Ryan Thomas, great grandsons Lane , Jace, and Brody of Andrews and granddaughter Kenali Kendrick and husband Dee Collins, great grandsons Kage, Kobe and Kino Collins of Houston; daughter Kandi and husband Cole Herring of Fluvanna, granddaughter Jamie and husband Esquire Hennigan, great grandchildren Eleanor, Liam, and Neil of Houston; granddaughter Jodi Herring of Fluvanna, granddaughter Katie and husband Brice Calli, great grandchildren Brec, Kase, and Havana of Fluvanna, grandson Jesse Herring and wife Nicolle, great grandson  Cassidy of Fluvanna; granddaughter Jenni Herring of Fort Worth, granddaughter Molly Herring of Fluvanna, granddaughter Natalie Herring of Fluvanna; daughter Kelli and husband Greg Shotts of Houston, grandson Kyler Shotts of Houston, and granddaughter Camille Shotts of Milwaukee, WI. He had 4 daughters, 13 grandkids, and 13 great grandkids.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Elmore Kendrick.
