Leroy Arms

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him."

On a hot Tuesday morning, July 19 ^th , Leroy Arms got to see, hear and know what God had prepared for him, we are sure it's beyond amazing. At 11:35 a.m., with his daughters at his side holding his hand, he went to be with his Lord.

Dad had been hospitalized at Hendrick's for covid and viral pneumonia for 11 days, thank you to Hendrick's and staff…..short staffed for care, but we witnessed some real personal care for him and his family…..Hoping to regain strength, he transferred to a physical therapy rehab facility….he wanted to give it his best shot….wanting to return to his small home in Clyde, still living independent. Yet "our steps are directed by the Lord". His frail body just couldn't do it….he tried….God had other plans for him.

Leroy was born a Texan and died a Texan. He moved to Clyde in 1960, where he and his wife raised six children. He coached baseball for many summers, watched and cheered many a Bulldog football game on Friday nights. If he couldn't go to the game, he listened on the radio. He was part of the Booster Club for many years, a member of First Baptist Church for years, later moving to Southside Baptist Church.

Many stories can be told of him and his buddy Les of 50 years, Les preceded him in passing. They were a hoot and "real characters". A book could be written on those guys escapades….

For years he frequented Thrifty's with his coffee drinking buddies, all passed on now. He loved to do "scratch offs" almost to a fault. Daughters prayers were answered ..he quit. Yes, prayers are answered. Yeah he was a bit of a gambler and rambler in his day….then God stepped in.

Leroy was a Korean War vet. He was wounded on the LST 973 on September 1950 resulting in lifelong issues. The Veteran's Administration has been so instrumental in enabling him to stay in his home, being just a couple months shy of 92. They provided incredible nurses, Suzanne, Brandi and healthcare workers extraordinaire Dolores, Denise and recently Haley….incredible people. Kinder Hearts Hospice and Girling Health Care Systems provided us the best of the best, thank you. The VA Clinic in Abilene provided excellent care, Dr. Imran Yazdani…you rock!!! You became like a friend to Leroy and his family, thank you so. Roberta Foster, Ann Marie, Samantha, we thank you as well for keeping dad safe, healthy and being there for us. We would not have made it this far without you.

Leroy didn't get out much these later years, he read his bible nightly, prayed for each of his extended family….a lot. When you would call him and ask how he was…he always said, "Golly bum, I feel like a million dollars but do not have a nickel to my name".

Oh, you will be missed Pop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally, sons, Van, Johnny and Jerry Arms.

And all of those who survive him know who they are and what you meant to him.

In lieu of flowers….send money….No that was Dad's thing, money….No, please…pick up the phone and call your loved ones to let them know they matter while they're here, who of us does not own a phone! And remember, be kind and God is good, so so good. Amen, Amen….

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Southside Baptist Church of Clyde.
