Lucy Bess Leggett Madison Caldwell, 84, of Abilene passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, in Abilene.  Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Broadview Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Wes Terry officiating.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 3:30 until 6:00 p.m. Friday at Broadview Baptist Church.

Lucy was born March 6, 1938, in Abilene to Jeff and Esther Leggett.  She was born and raised in Hamby, graduating from Abilene High School in 1956. She met the love of her life, Roy Madison, for the first time at North Junior High in 1952. Lucy was working at Timex when they met again on February 5, 1960, on a Friday night. Roy proposed to her on Thursday afternoon May 12, 1960, and they married August 27,1960, at her parent's home in Hamby. Both were members of Broadview Baptist Church since 1968.  She was Roy's number one fan on the racetrack and followed his lead by driving in the Powder Puff Division. After Roy's death in 1979, her two girls were her life, and she was devoted to them and their raising.  Later in life she carried on the name Bess through her friendships in Eastern Star, the church, and her personal life.  She retired from Anderson International after working as the Office Manager for more than 20 years. However, before permanently retiring, she worked for Lamb Communication.  Bess joined the Order of the Eastern Star after Roy became a member of the Masonic Lodge. She was a Lifelong and Endowed Member of Cora Posey Chapter #1072 which is now affiliated with Abilene Chapter #30 and was a Member of Eastland Chapter #280 Order of the Eastern Star.  In 2009 - 2010 she served as Worthy Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter of Texas.  Bess married her friend, companion, and second husband Alvin Caldwell at her home in Abilene on April 11, 1998, after knowing each other for numerous years. He became a Mason and joined the Eastern Star to share in her same passion. They spent many quality years together while enjoying retirement.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Alvin Caldwell of Abilene; two daughters, Audri Rowell of Abilene and Margie Bell and husband Jeff of Clyde; six grandchildren, Jaron Bell, Kortni Casey and husband Will, Taylor Kohler and husband Nathan, Kelci LaBrenz, Morgan Bloodworth and husband John and Banner Bell and fiancé Will; great grandchildren, Greyson, Easton, Harper, Emerson, Amelia, Tye, Emelynn, Silas, Madison, Charlie and another great grandson on the way; special friends Bobbie Jarvis and husband Jeff; nephew Alan Leggett and wife Barbara; stepson, Greg Caldwell and wife Brenda; several nieces, nephews and a multitude of special friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Roy Madison; her parents; brothers, Roy, Joe and L.D. Leggett; sister, Dorothy Burson and stepdaughter, Charlotte Caldwell.

A special "thank you" to the doctors, nurses, staff of Hendrick Hospice Care and her speech therapist, Misha Kinkade. We also want to thank everyone for the many visits, calls, texts, cards, food, flowers and prayers during these last few difficult days.
