Marshall Grier Dezern, 80, of Clyde died Friday, November 16, 2018 in an Abilene hospital. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the St. Joachim & Ann Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Bernard Gully officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial with military honors will follow in the Clyde Catholic Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with visitation following from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Marshall was born August 23, 1938 in North Carolina to Dillard and Ethel (Davis) Dezern. He attended school in Lee and Moore counties in North Carolina. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to the Clyde/Abilene area from North Carolina in 1956 and married Anna Lee Munson in Clyde on August 3, 1957. He worked for Crown Cork and Seal for many years and retired from the Abilene State School as Dorm Supervisor. He was a member of the St. Joachim & Ann Catholic Church in Clyde.
He is survived by two sons, Mike Dezern and wife Angie of Jacksonville and Billy Dezern and wife Robin of Clyde; two daughters, Marty Ferguson and husband Darrell of Ft. Worth and Laurie Motley and husband Jason of Arlington; brother J.W. Dezern of Sanford, North Carolina; brothers and sisters in law, Dot and Curtis Caffey of Abilene, Marie and Robert Marshall of Louisiana, Beverly Munson of Clyde, Teresa Munson of Livingston, Sue Munson of Lewisville and Pat Munson Smith of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Kyle Dezern and wife Sarah of Melissa, Stephanie Felix and husband Angel of California, Jake Dezern and wife Jessica of Boerne, Cody Dezern, Troy Ferguson and wife Lori of Lewisville, Brooke Cervantes and husband Evany of Strawn, Blane Ferguson and wife Olivia of Las Vegas, Nevada, Conner Motley of College Station, and Landree Motley of Arlington; great grandchildren, Kayla and Dallas Dezern, Grady, Toby, and Levi Dezern, Beau and Parker Ferguson, Ensley Cervantes, Logan and Savannah Felix, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marshall was preceded in death by his wife Anna in 2006, his parents, son Jeffery Dezern, brother Clifford Baker, sisters, Irene Blevins, Roberta McCrimmon and Mary Lee Dezern, brothers in law, Johnie, Jimmy, Donald and Bernard Munson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hendrick Hospice Care, Clyde Fire Dept. or your favorite charity.
