Murland Har Jones, 87, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in an Abilene hospice facility. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Victory Baptist Church in Abilene. A private burial will be at Clear Fork Cemetery at Lueders.

Murland was born July 22, 1936, in Scranton to Luther and Mary (Wheeler) Jones. He attended schools in Shep, Blackwell and Anson. He married Thelma Foller in Abilene on July 4, 1957. Murland was ordained as a deacon in 1974 and became a minister in 1976. He preached at Grace Baptist Church in Eastland and formerly at Nugent, Caddo and Denver City.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thelma Jones; four sons, Terry Jones and wife Loyce of Brownfield, Tim Jones and wife Mary of Eastland, Tommy Jones and wife Toni of Eastland and Tracy Jones and wife Debbie of Clyde; two brothers, Rubin Jones of Abilene and Doyle Jones of Moran; two sisters, Wanda Maddux of Abilene and Edna Sims of Eula; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Murland was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Huston Jones and his sister, Vuna King.
