Obituary

Opal Marie Morrisset McAdams, 92, passed away at her home in Hamby, Texas on June 17, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde. A private burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. She was born on October 29, 1925, to Russel Hart and Mary Moore Morrisset on their ranch in the Hamby Community. She was a member of the Hamby Church of Christ.

She attended Lanham Elementary, which was built by her grandfather on the corner of their ranch. She graduated from Clyde High School in 1942, where she was very active in tennis along with many other school activities.

After graduation, Opal worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone until her marriage to Ralph E. McAdams on August 19, 1949, in Abilene.  After their marriage, Opal decided to stop working to be a helpmate in starting their farm and ranch operation and to begin a family on the home place in Hamby.

With the passing of her husband, she felt called to fulfill her civic duty by serving on the Eula School Board. She later began providing childcare out of her home. She was known to many families as "Grandma Opal" and she would often jokingly say she "raised 30 children".  She was loved by many in her community and she was adored by those who had the privilege of calling her Mother, Grandma and Aunt Opie. She was well known by all for her crocheted dish scrubbers, potholders and chocolate covered peanut butter ritz cracker cookies.

Those left to cherish her sweet and loving nature are her three daughters: Brenda Barr and husband Wes; Carolyn Williams and husband Phil; Cindy Castanon and husband Roland all of Hamby, Texas. Six grandchildren: Stephanie Mangrum, Kimberly Rodriquez, Cody Bob Williams, Cameron Williams, Kirsten Price and Tresley Rodriguez and twelve great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph E. McAdams, parents and two sisters, Bonibelle Hunter and Jewellene Stephenson.
