Patsy Joye Korzenewski, age 86, a resident of Abilene since 1953 died Monday 18 December 2023 at the Hendrick Hospice Care facility.  Born February 8, 1937, in Pioneer Texas.  She was the daughter of the late W.C. Lane and Opal Jones Lane.  She attended school in Cross Plains.  She married Alexander "Tyrod" Korzenewski on May 17, 1953, in Hope Arkansas and moved to Abilene shortly thereafter.  Her career in nursing began as a volunteer (Candy Striper) at Dyess AFB Hospital and progressed to her earning her LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) certification.  She attended McMurray and Hardin Simmons for academic requirements to attend the Mary Meek School of Nursing at Hendrick Memorial Hospital and earned her certification as a registered nurse in 1970.  Pat specialized as an Operating Room (OR) nurse serving in the OR for almost 30 years in various positions of responsibility within the Surgery Department. In 1985, Pat was chosen as the first Director of Abilene's first outpatient surgical wing (Day Surgery) at Hendrick Medical Center.  Along this journey, Pat also earned a Bachelor and Masters Degree of Nursing from Abilene Christian University, raising two sons and caring for a hard working husband.  She was a member of American Operating Room Nurses (AORN) serving on various committees throughout the years.  She also served as a great leader, mentor and teacher to a multitude of nurses and staff through the years.   Pat retired from the Hendrick Medical System in 2001.  After retirement, she continued serving the medical profession in the classroom as an instructor at the Cisco Junior College nursing program.

She was a member of Abilene Bible Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband (Alexander) June 16, 2023.  Survivors include: two Sons, Alex Ray Korzenewski and wife Claire-Jean of Denton Valley and Mike Korzenewski and wife Angie of Abilene.  four Grandchildren, Tricia Hayes and Husband Brad of Water Valley, Mark Korzenewski and wife Bailey of Ft. Worth, Alexa Hamilton and husband Ryan Hamilton of Cave Creek Arizona and Rebecca Weldon and husband Justin of Houston.  Pat also had eight great grandchildren, Kenna Hayes, Harper Rose and Charlotte Korzenewski, Madeline and Owen Hamilton, Alexander, Henry and Charles Weldon.

Preceded in death by her three brothers, R.C. "Bobby" Lane, R.M. "Roland" Lane, Larry Don Lane.  She is survived by a sister Carol Cook of Azle and husband Jimmy.

The visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 PM Friday December 22nd at Abilene Bible Church 3125 Oldham Lane, Abilene, Texas 79602.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Abilene Bible Church with pastor Dr. Daiqing Yuan officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home.
