Obituary

Roger Dale Blackwell, 68, of Abilene passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene.

Roger was born February 17, 1955, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After school, he served in the U.S. Army.  He worked many jobs during his lifetime including a bus driver for the disabled, working at a halfway house and community work. He worked in the grocery business and was a disc jockey in New Mexico and he was a bartender in Las Vegas, Nevada. He married Kimberly Cleek in Abilene on August 19, 2000.  He was a Soldier of Christ and was recently baptized with the Church of Christ. He was the family's music man and cheerleader and a huge Chicago Cub's fan. He was a staunch dog owner, and his best friend was his dog, Bob.

He is survived by his daughter, Summer Blackwell of Everett, Washington; three granddaughters, Devynn Sepulveda, Amy Laws and husband Robert and Anna Crouse; great granddaughter, Sloane Laws; brother, Ronnie Blackwell and wife Sheree, Harry Urey and wife Esmeralda and Roy Urey and all of their families; sisters, Debbie Estrada, Donna Wirs, Tracey Urey and all of their families; and his father, Roy Urey, Sr.

Roger was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Summers Blackwell; his second wife, Kimberly Blackwell; his mother, Veronica Urey and his brother, Garry Blackwell.
