Ronnie Truett Smith 71, passed peacefully at his home in Clyde, Texas on April 19, 2026. He was born on November 21, 1954. Most knew him as “Smitty”.
Smitty was preceded in death by parents Raymond Smith and Ida Hokanson and stepfather Leon Hokanson, sister Jodi Loven and brother Ray Smith.
Ronnie is survived by his wife Ada Smith, his brother Johnny Kiefer, son Scott Smith and wife Kay Smith, daughter Kasi Hagan and husband Kevin Hagan, bonus daughter Mica Puryear and husband Jason Puryear.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jaxon Smith, Kalli Underwood, Will Hagan, Brooklyn Hagan, Saebra Louis, Seslea Luna, Brayden Hirsch, and Braxton Puryear.
Smitty was blessed with nine great grandchildren: Bryson and Kooper Underwood, Christopher, Kayeden, Saelea and Sealaya Louis, Jett and Mak Jiminez, and Remi Joy Smith…(on the way) along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Smitty was an oil field mechanic by trade and owner of Bulldog Equipment in Clyde TX for over 40 years. Smitty grew up in Abilene where he graduated from Abilene High school in 1973. His coach told Ada several years ago that Smitty was the toughest football player he had ever coached. Friends say his tough exterior was overshadowed by his warm, caring heart. His most cherished achievement in life was his family, whom he valued with all his heart. Smitty was always known for telling his family members that he loved them.
He never met anyone he didn’t like and never spoke ill of anyone. Smitty respected people for who they were, no matter what. He had many close friends while growing up and they remained close until the end. Smitty always wore a sweet smile on his face and was truly loved by all.
