Wilma Rose Farmer, 98, of New Braunfels, died Saturday, January 25, 2025.  Funeral services will be held at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m. with Phil Williams officiating.  A private burial will be in the Eula Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, January 31st from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rose was born July 11, 1926, to Loyd and Cynthia Miller Farmer, was the oldest of four daughters and excelled in school; earning her BS and Master's degrees from Abilene Christian College.  Rose was a long-time resident of Eula except when she coached girls High School Basketball in Duncanville from 1959 through 1968. The varsity girls lost only eight district games in nine years. She also coached girls' basketball in Eula from 1951-1959, losing only two district game in those eight seasons. She coached all three of her sisters as well as other relatives in Eula. Her overall twenty five year record of coaching won 889 out of 1170 games at four schools in Oplin, Eula, Duncanville and Clyde.  Her teaching career spanned 37 years in five decades. She was instrumental in organizing the coaching association, serving on the original committee in 1952 which drafted plans for a statewide membership and coaching school. Rose received the "Honor Coach Award" from the Texas High School Girls Coaches Association in 1983.

The UIL recognized her as one of the past presidents of the Texas Girls Coaches Association in 2005. She was one of the founding four members of the Texas High School Coaching Association.  In the early 50's her entire team consisted of her sisters and cousins, all named Farmer, with the exception of Peggy Favor.

Rose is survived by her sister Annabeth Favor & husband Bob Favor of New Braunfels, brother-in-law George Welch of Clyde, ten nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews, 31 great-great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great-great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Loyd Welch, sister Alene Witte, brother-in-law Curtis Witte, nephew Randall Witte, great nephew Denver Priess and great niece Randi Jo Witte.
