Obituary

Rubin "Pa" Galvan, 56, of Oplin, Texas passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at home with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Wylie High School Performing Arts Center (4502 Antilley Rd., Abilene, TX 79606). Chaplain Mike Horton will officiate.

Rubin was born February 18, 1969, in Anson, Texas. In 1980 his dad, Joe, married Kathy and she became his mom. He graduated from Anson High School in 1987. He was an Anson Tiger through and through.

On August 11, 2012, Rubin married Cheryl at the Oplin Community Center where she was driven in, at his request, by her daughters on his 4-wheeler. He was always daring to be different.

Rubin retired from the Abilene State Supported Living Center in 2022 where he had worked since he was 18 years old. He was currently employed by Wylie High School in maintenance. He wore that purple and gold but still swore that he bled red and black.

Rubin loved the outdoors, whether it was deer hunting, working on the property, or just sitting on his porch watching tv (especially the Dallas Cowboys or Nascar). All were welcome on Rubin's porch to kick back with music and beer. Above all he loved and cherished his family, particularly his precious grandkids.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl of Oplin, Texas; His parents, Joe and Kathy Galvan of Anson, Texas;  Father-in-law, Jim Morris of Grants Pass, Oregon; Daughter, Kamryn Adams and husband David of Oplin, Texas; Son, Gilbert Calderon and wife Kelly of Temple, Texas; Daughter, Alisyn Smoot of Oplin, Texas; Grandsons, Ian Swindle of  Rindge, New Hampshire, David Adams, Jr. of Oplin, Texas, and Barrett Calderon of Temple, Texas; Granddaughter Abigail Adams of Oplin, Texas; Brothers, Conner and Chance Galvan of Anson, Texas and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was eagerly awaiting the chance to meet his great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ben & Lupe Galvan, Clinton & Mary Ann Ward and JA & Vera Owens; Parent's-in-law, David and Alice Denunzio and Brother-in-law, Randie Morris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Calderon, David Adams, Conner Galvan, Chance Galvan, David Galvan, Ben Castille, Mark Jensen, Tab Jenkins, and Todd Flint.
