Shirley
Sasin
Jun 4, 1946 — Dec 16, 2022
Shirley Ann Sasin, 76, of Abilene, passed from this world Friday morning, December 16, 2022, at an Abilene hospital. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Bailey-Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde with Brother Robert Graven officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Shirley was born Shirley Ann Dipple on June 4, 1946, in Abilene to Harry & Noma Dipple. She grew up in the Dudley community and attended school in Eula. In high school, Shirley excelled at basketball, continuing to play both volleyball and basketball in Abilene city leagues before breaking her ankle and hanging up her sports shoes.
She took her first job working at M-Systems after telling a "little white lie" about her actual age in order to get the job. She then went on to own and operate The Dream of the Decorator, specializing in custom draperies, bedding and window treatments, for 48 years.
While so many remember Shirley's famous German Chocolate Cake, holiday pies and her green thumb, even more remember her gift of song. Whether singing in church, at a wedding, a funeral or just to her kids and grandkids, Shirley had a true talent, a voice so timeless many still tell stories of hearing Shirley sing.
Shirley worked hard and she loved hard, but her greatest achievement was her family. Known to so many as Mom, Mama, Mama Shirley, Mawmaw, Grandma Shirley, even "Grandma at the hotel," her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart. She was a God-fearing woman with a smile that could still light up the room, and just enough "Bless Your Heart" to be a lady, even when angry.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Harry Dipple; her mother, Noma Gordon and stepfather J.A. Gordon; and her sister, Bernice White.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Bettye Hayhurst of Dudley; her children, Julie Young and husband Jimmy of Abilene. Victor Powers and wife Summer of Abilene, Amanda Mendez and husband Mario of Tuscola and Hoss Sasin and wife Courtney of Eula; her grandchildren, Summer Cullins, Andrew Young and wife Angela, Wren Young & wife Heather, Lauren Courtney and husband Michael, Kolsen Powers, Justice Kunkel and husband Ethan, Suzanna Mendez, Peyton Mendez, Faith Mendez and Bellami Sasin; and her great-grandchildren, Brilyn Kunkel, Swayzi Strickland, Lyndrie Kunkel and baby Courtney coming soon.
