Shirley Joy Shropshire, 89, of Abilene passed away Monday, September 1, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2018 Highland Ave. Abilene, Texas 79605, with Leroy Sievers officiating.

Shirley was born December 23, 1935, in Lampasas to the late Bonner and Almeda (Clendennen) Ivey. She graduated from Jal, New Mexico High School and attended Texas Tech University. She married Dewey (Doc) Shropshire in Cleburne on December 15, 1956. She worked as a secretary for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission for several years, retiring in 1978. She was baptized on December 23, 1951 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and had the privilege of being a member of several different congregations throughout her life.

Shirley always enjoyed the beauty of nature and working in her garden. She also loved all kinds of animals and looked forward to the time that the entire earth will be a garden and mankind will be at peace with all the animals. It was her greatest joy to tell others about that beautiful promise and what God's Kingdom will do for mankind.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dewey (Doc)Shropshire of Abilene; one son, Steve Shropshire and wife Mary of Buffalo Gap; one brother, Lowell Ivey and wife Pat of Lometa; one son-in-law, Ed Watts of Ranger; one granddaughter, Julie Watts Carman and husband Jeromee of Stephenville; two great grandchildren, Jamie and John-Luke; her niece, Michelle Ivey McDermott of Midland and her nephew, David Ivey of Lampasas, along with many dear friends that she considered family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Shropshire Watts and her brother, Rex Ivey.
